Microsoft External Research Division has published recently an impressive book titled “The Fourth Paradigm- Data- Intensive Scientific Discovery" and Edited by Tony Hey, Stewart Tansley, and Krist in Tolle.

It features a total of 70 authors, 43 of them from outside Microsoft, representing 20 separate institutions and concentrate particularly on science and policy. Microsoft made the content of the book for free under a CC license. The main reason they for publishing it for free is “to spread the debate to the largest possible audience, and broadcast the content and generating the widest possible circulation of the book”.
